Occasional Digest - a story for you

A BRITISH woman who fled Israel after the Hamas atrocity is returning to the war-torn region – because she no longer feels safe in the UK.

Businesswoman Clare Harris, 34, who lived in north London until she was 19, left her Tel Aviv flat after the 7/10 attack but will fly back to the war zone tomorrow after being left too scared to leave her home in the capital due to “constant” pro-Palestinian rallies.

She has also received hundreds of twisted anti-Semitic messages from online trolls with one saying: “F*** you Israeli supporting c***.”

Speaking from her apartment before her flight from Heathrow, Clare, who is a director at a finance firm, said: “I feel more threatened here in London than I will in Israel.

“That is the sad truth. I have packed my stuff and I am getting on that flight and going back.

“All I see on the news and on social media are thousands of people at hate rallies holding pictures of Hitler and sick things.

“The police won’t ban them (marches) despite people saying they don’t feel safe.

“Look at how many arrests there were over this weekend.

“So, if the police won’t even help, then I will feel safer back in Israel.

“I can see the rocket alerts coming up on my phone as they are fired in (to Israel) but at least back there people won’t be chanting anti-Semitic abuse on the street where I live.”

Clare, now has dual British and Israeli citizenship, told how she received hundreds of sick anti-Semitic slurs after posting “Free Palestine from Hamas” on her Instagram account, which heightened her anxiety.

The messages, seen by The Sun, read: “Free Palestine from uneducated brainless illegal occupying zionist like you.

“And shut the fuck up.”

Another said: “We definitely don’t need the kind of Jewish babies you’d pop out!

“Save the rest of us the trouble of having to put up with your rotten kind!”

One added: “Wait a little longer my dear, because Israel will be destroyed and you will return to being slaves who have no place to live.

“Once a slave always a slave. (laughing emoji) and no country wants you accept (SIC) you. Ironic.”

And another read: “You whore son of a b***h.

“You and israelian pigs you supporting genocide.”

After the 7/10 terror attack Clare hid alone for five days in a specialist bullet proof panic room in her apartment with a hammer and a knife under her pillow.

She was unable to sleep because of “stress” and “heartbreak” as details of what had happened unfolded.

Tragically, Clare also found out that one of her close friends, Dor Malka, 28, had been slaughtered at the Nova music festival.

She added: “It was the worst time of my life but I was one of the lucky ones.

“I am suffering from the trauma of losing my friend and so many other people I knew that have been kidnapped.

“At the time I wanted to get away and go back home to my family to be with them.

“I didn’t realise how so many people would turn on me as a Jew because of the retaliation.

“Of course I am heartbroken about the fact that innocent people are dying in Gaza.

“It breaks all of our hearts that anyone innocent might lose their lives.”

Clare has said she will volunteer at food stations when she gets back to the warzone, she also thanked The Sun for their support since the attacks took place, adding: “It means a lot to see headlines showing the people we have lost and what has happened to our community.

“The front page of the children that have been kidnapped really hit home with a lot of people.”
