Early snowfall a boon for alpine ski resorts

Occasional Digest - a story for you

Heavy early season snowfall  is leading to several ski resorts opening up earlier than anticipated, according to Ski Solutions.

It promises a fine start to the winter ski season.

Tignes will open its doors next weekend on 18 November, which is a week earlier than expected.

Kitzbühel opens this Saturday, 11 November, a full two weeks early.

Verbier opens today, a full three weeks earlier than usual.

The next seven days’ forecast is for nearly half a metre of snow across ski resort areas such as Crans Montana, La Plagne, Chamonix and St. Anton.

“Snow accumulations of more than 100cm are quite widespread now on the upper slopes. This will ensure a solid base for the winter ahead,” said Ian McIlrath, Ski Solutions MD.

“It’s shaping up to be one of the best starts to the winter ski season that I can remember”.

McIlrath says the fresh snowfall has fueled demand for early season skiing holidays.

Bookings since the beginning of November are up 20% for December trips.
