Some showers could turn heavy or thundery, particularly in the south west.

But temperatures will hover around the average – and once the rain has cleared, it will be breezy with glimpses of sun.

A yellow wind warning will be in place for the Outer Hebrides from 8am until 6pm today.

Forecasters expect gusts of up to 80mph in the islands, whipping up large waves and delaying flights and ferries to and from mainland Scotland.

The wind and showers should gradually ease on Friday, with Saturday set to be frosty and fine.

But rain and gusty winds will return overnight, with Sunday set to be fairly grey.
