WA Police have charged a 35-year-old man with murder over the fatal shooting, which forced the town of Wooroloo into lockdown for four hours.
Police were called to the scene of Needham Road and Murauba Close, about 50km east of Perth, around 7:20am and found the victim with a gunshot wound to his head.
He was flown to Royal Perth Hospital and received treatment in the intensive care unit, but died in hospital on Sunday.
Wooroloo locals were urged to stay inside and lock their doors, while police scoured the area for multiple people potentially linked to the incident who had fled into the bush.
Police also revealed those men had been with the victim at the time of the shooting.
Officers located the 35-year-old man shortly afterwards. Homicide detectives charged him with murder on Sunday.
He has been refused bail and is due to appear in Midland Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police Minister Paul Papalia praised police on Saturday afternoon for their “incredibly rapid” response.
He said the situation was another reminder of why it was necessary for the government to embark on a sweeping rewrite of the state’s firearms laws, which he said was about making public safety the number one consideration.
Police are still searching for two men involved in the incident who fled the scene of the alleged shooting.
Detectives are seeking dash-cam vision showing the movements of a blue Toyota Rukus wagon, with the registration number 1HZW 926.
They are also seeking vision of any person seen walking or running on Needham Street, between Liberton Road and Dinsdale Road, between 7:00am and and 8:30am.
Vision can be uploaded directly to investigators via this link.
