River Tiber disappointment

River Tiber had to pull out he Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf on vets advice.

He was expected to be a contender in the mile contest.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien said: “River Tiber was being checked all week, he seemed okay and the vets have checked him this morning and weren’t happy with him, so that’s the way it is.

“Obviously that’s the rules and I suppose there’s no more to say about that.

“We’re visitors here and we’re very grateful to be here, rules are rules and they just weren’t happy with him today.

“Obviously they’re athletes and they don’t pull out the same way every day, like we don’t get out of bed every day the same, and he might have been slightly stiffer today than he was yesterday.

“When you’re training horses that does happen and every athlete in the world will tell you the same, it’s very fractional and I suppose it’s opinion.

“We’re disappointed for the lads (owners) really, they put a lot in but that’s that way it is.”

No doubts over Unquestionable

Ryan Moore rode Unquestionable after stablemate River Tiber was unable to compete following vets advice.

He took the place of Frank Dettori in yesterday’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.

After the win, Moore said: “He’s only run one bad race but he had a legitimate excuse as he missed the break and pulled off a shoe.

“He’s always held his form and ran a very good race in the Lagardere. The step up in trip suited him today.

“He should have more room for progression as he doesn’t ride like a sharp two-year-old and will be better as he grows into his frame.

“When the opportunity came to get some cover I was always happy. He got to the front earlier than ideal but I was always in control.”
