Occasional Digest - a story for you

Suspected Ansaru terrorists attacked a police checkpoint near the village of Gidan Giye (Kwanoni) in Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State, northwestern Nigeria, on Tuesday night, resulting in the tragic loss of three police officers.

According to a local source, the terrorists targeted a police checkpoint in a well-coordinated assault, catching the police officers on duty by surprise.

During the attack, the Ansaru elements engaged in a gunfight with the officers, resulting in the tragic deaths of the three police officers. Their names have not been officially released.

A relative of one of the officers confirmed to HumAngle that the attack had occurred, also confirming that the three killed officers were on duty when the tragic incident happened.

The Ansaru terrorists, notorious for their violent extremist activities in North West Nigeria, managed to seize several firearms and other weapons from the police checkpoint during the attack.

Zamfara State, like several other states in Nigeria’s northwestern region, has been facing ongoing security challenges, with various criminal elements and terrorist organisations operating in the area.

The North West as a whole continues to grapple with these security challenges, and efforts to bring stability and peace to the region have remained difficult to achieve.
