Occasional Digest - a story for you

Eddie Jones has resigned as Wallabies coach after less than a year in the role.

After a disastrous run since being appointed in January, where the Wallabies won just two of nine matches and failed to make the knockout stages of the World Cup, Jones will exit Australian rugby just 10 months into the five-year deal he signed in January.

The precise terms of the release are yet to be finalised but Jones will not stay on as coach.

Jones was linked to a return to Japan’s head coaching role earlier this month, but denied reports he was set to walk out on the Wallabies

The 63-year -old was contracted through to the 2027 World Cup.

Australia’s 12.5 per cent win rate in Jones’s second stint as Wallabies coach is the least successful in the side’s history.
