POLICE are hunting the owner of two beasts who mauled a dog – and left a woman with serious head injuries.

The 85-year-old woman was walking her 13-year-old Labrador down the road when the pair were approached by two dogs, believed to be the Cane Corso breed.

And the beasts started attacking the elderly dog in the horror attack that unfolded in Rotherham, South Yorkshire on Wednesday morning, October 25.

During the attack, the 85-year-old woman was knocked over and suffered injuries to her head.

The dog also needed veterinary treatment.

Instead of helping, police say the female owner of the two dogs fled the scene.

They are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward after the attack on Hague Avenue in Rawmarsh.

It comes after a baby was attacked by a Cane Corso.

The horror hound turned on the 10-month-old in Barnsley on Tuesday when he started crying.

The baby boy was rushed to hospital and required surgery after the terrifying attack.

The dog is described as “loving and affectionate” – and had shown no previous signs of aggression.

South Yorkshire Police said: “The incident was out of character for the dog, who has no previous history of aggression, and no reports of community concerns had been made to the police.

“The owner of the dog described him as being ‘pleasant’ and ‘affectionate’ with children.”

And South Yorkshire Police warned: “As we approach Halloween and Bonfire Night dogs can act unpredictably due to the stress of noise and fireworks, please walk your dog on a lead, use a muzzle if you feel necessary and keep dogs under control.”

If you believe you can help over the incident involving the elderly woman, please report online, via live chat or by calling 101 quoting incident number 324 of 25 October 2023.
