Occasional Digest - a story for you

MOST of the time we look for the cheapest flights on the market, just wanting to get somewhere hot and sunny.

However, there is nothing worse than arriving jetlagged and sore after being cramped in economy.

I tried out Qatar Airways's Qsuite - it comes at a price but it was like a mini holiday7

I was lucky enough to recently be invited onboard with Qatar Airways, to try out their Qsuite Business Class – and I’m not sure how I will ever go back to economy.

The Qsuite is found on their new Airbus A350-1000 planes as well as some of their A350-900s, Boeing 777-300ERs and Boeing 777-200LRs.

Feeling more like First Class, it often dominates other airlines when it comes to awards – it’s won World’s Best Business Class at the Skytrax World Airline Awards for the last five years.

Most business class seats have lie-flat beds, three-course meals and some extra privacy.

But the Qsuite felt like a hotel on a plane – having its very own private door you can close.

Along with the high walls around you, it felt like you were in a little bedroom, where no one can see inside.

The cabins run with a 1-2-1 format, so if in the middle you can pull the middle wall down if travelling with a companion, although I opted for a window seat.

The lie-flat bed was obviously fantastic, with a cosy fleece blanket and pillow, as well as White Company pyjamas.

And they also have Diptyque toiletries in a fancy beauty bag, which includes a mini perfume, lip balm, body lotion and hand cream.

Even the bathrooms have the same brand, with a face mist and hand cream only for business class passengers.

And something else Qatar Airways is often praised for is the service.

Crew somehow toed the line of being extremely attentive when needed – they helped me both set up my bed and pick a choice from the menu – but also leave you in peace when you want some solitude.

If you don’t want to eat for another few hours, they let you pick a time for your meal to arrive, and my empty dishes were never on my table for long before they appeared to take them.

I had delicious lamb steak with potatoes for dinner, which was remarkably high quality despite being made on a plane.

And feeling peckish later, I made the most of their afternoon tea with their signature lime and mint soft drink which got us all chatting about being ridiculously delicious.

If you want no interaction, there’s even a Do Not Disturb button you can press, although I opted never to press this.

But despite nearly seven hours on a plane, I didn’t want it to be over, and was almost sad to be arriving in Doha.

And while it certainly isn’t a flight that you would do a lot, it’s definitely a treat for a one-off, bucket list experience that blows every other business class out of the water.

Don’t forget to head to their business class lounges too – which all Qsuite passengers have access to.

The Qsuite operates on flights from London Heathrow.

Prices start from £2,720 when travelling from London Heathrow to Doha.

Qatar Airways also recently relaunched from Birmingham Airport, with their standard business class much cheaper than Heathrow Airport.

Sun Online Travel has also tried out Finnair’s business class pods – here is what you can expect.
