Occasional Digest - a story for you

A TESLA driver says she loves her electric car but there are five things about the motor that drive her mad.

‘Out of Spec Dave’ on his YouTube page chatted to his wife Kathy about her new Tesla Model Y long range.

She got the EV in June this year and compared it to her previous car, a Genesis GV60.

Dave started off by saying: “I hear you love the car and have no regrets about getting rid of the GV60.”

Kathy remained silent but smiled and created the heart shape with her hands.

Dave said that after getting the car she drove it down to Florida where it spent the summer and now she drives it to work and back every in Connecticut.

In the YouTube footage she weighed up the pros and cons.

On the negative side, she kicked off her grumbles by saying the interior was “very plain”.

She added: “I like my white seats but I think it doesn’t feel like getting into a Mercedes.”

Dave then adds: “Of course not” but Kathy replies: “This is my point.”

Kathy said: “Wouldn’t it be nice if these white seats had some quilting to them? Wouldn’t it be nice if there was more stitching in the interior.”

“We know Tesla’s very minimalistic but I do believe they could step It up in terms of making it feel a little bit more aesthetically luxurious.”

Dave then asks her if Tesla had the option of getting massaging seats with some pretty cool stitching would she go for that.

Kathy then replies: “Hold please. That’s my number two – no massaging seats. I said quilted seats but no massaging seats is probably my number one dislike.

“I think every car at this pricing point should have massaging seats.

But when pushed by her husband to see if she would pay extra to get the seats, Kathy gave a definite yes.

She said that the massaging seats were really nice when you were sitting in traffic to “get a little something”.

Dave said: “It would be really nice if there was the Model Y luxury edition.”

Kathy said: “It would just elevate it, although I will say this about the seats – they are plush and they are comfortable. They’re not uncomfortable seats.”

Dave then asks: “How’s the ride in this car?”

In response, Kathy says: “I think the ride’s great.”

Comparing it to a previous 2021 Model Y she had, her new car was “markedly better” and far less bumpy.

Talking about safety she did say she had a “pet peeve” with the side view mirrors, adding: “There’s no driving warning on them.”

“I think it’s not safe…. There’s a definite blind spot.”

On the positive side though she said: “What is nice though, is if you’re in reverse, the screen is so big, the big backing up and then the bottom part splits and you can see the right side and then the left. That’s a nice feature.”

Dave then adds his own thoughts, saying: “Tesla’s gone completely Vision on these cars which means that it’s only using cameras to judge distance and close in I think it’s a problem.

“For example when you’re in pulling into the garage, so the  estimation on the screen that it says okay you’re 18 in away or you’re 16 in away is just not anywhere near as accurate as it was when you had the sensors on your 2021.”

Kathy’s next gripe she considered to be so minor she was embarrassed to say it.

She said: “You know the cargo cover thing that goes in the trunk? I don’t like it.”

“It feels cheap. I’d rather have the roll, so I could roll it back.

“It just feels like it’s in the way.”

Kathy admitted it was just a minor point and there were a lot of positives about the Model Y.

Overall, she called the car “fantastic” and said there was a “lot to love about the car.”

Elsewhere, a Tesla owner says he can’t afford to insure his Model X because the premiums have shot up.

An EV drivers has made their Tesla into a home, complete with a kitchen.

While an EV expert has shown how you can you can jump start a dead Tesla.
