She explained that the mistakes have proved to be dangerous, with a popular pet gadget known to cause severe neurological issues.
Amelia (@ameliathedogtrainer) shared the advice with over 140,000 TikTok followers.
She explained that as a professional, she sees people make these common errors but warned her viewers to learn from their mistakes.
First, she said she would never walk her dogs off-leash near the road.
“For me, this isn’t something I would never do, no matter how well-trained a dog is, you just never know what might happen one day that could spook the dog, cause them to run out the road,” she said.
Next, the expert said she avoided playing pranks on her dog for internet trends.
Despite the trends going viral, the doggy mom explained why she had no interest in participating.
“It’s a one-way to getting bitten, things like barking in your dog’s face or even covering their bowl with cling film and seeing how they react,” she said.
Although the pranks may seem harmless, the trainer revealed such antics may lead to a breakdown of trust with your dog over time.
Last but not least, Amelia warned pet owners against using laser pens.
“Laser pens can actually cause quite severe neurological issues, including canine OCD because dogs don’t understand it’s something they can’t catch,” she said.
“It can cause a lot of frustration and can be extremely detrimental to their mental health.”
People took to the comments to thank her for her advice: “Yes, all of this,” agreed one commenter.
“Never knew that laser pens can be damaging so I’ll not be doing that again.”
“Never again with the laser pointer,” agreed another.
“Made that mistake with our dog when he was young, it’s been several years he’s never been the same.”
