The Sky Sports pundit went public with his support of Chelsea in a tweet yesterday – although he has never truly hidden his support of the West London club.
The former Arsenal midfielder came through the ranks at Arsenal and spent 10 years at the club between 1985 and 1997.
His affiliation with The Gunners has always seen him be famously pro-Arsenal in his views.
But Merson grew up as a Chelsea fan after being born in Harlesden in North West London.
Merson nailed his colours to the mast yesterday with a tweet that read: “Come on you Blues” alongside a blue love heart emoji.
He was covering Chelsea’s game against Burnley which finished in a 4-1 away win for the West London outfit.
Fans on Twitter expressed their shock at Merson’s affiliation, with one saying: “Paul Merson not being an Arsenal fan has completely spun me.”
Another said: “I always thought he was an Arsenal fan! Surprising to see!”
While a third wrote: “He’s Chels???”

But some were aware of Merson’s allegiances, as he’s never exactly made his Blues loyalties a secret.
One said: “I am surprised a lot of people don’t know he’s said it so many times even when he was playing.
Another wrote: “Really? He’s never hidden it.”
Merson played 386 games for The Gunners, winning two league titles, an FA Cup and a league cup at the club.
