Mount, 24, has just ONE assist to his name in his five appearances, although Ten Hag is confident the England ace will soon regain his form of old.

The Dutchman told United’s official website: “He can be a big part [of what we are creating here].

“He can play in that game by supplying, making the connections, making the link-ups for those in the front line.

“He has abilities to give that [energy] and to supply our front players by combinations.”

Ten Hag insists England international Mount provides his side with much more than a goal-scoring threat and creativity going forward.

He said: “Also, in his moments of defence transition, in defending and pressing he can be and he is already a great player for us because he puts a lot of effort in.

“When we get better connections [in the team], that will grow.”

Mount and his United team-mates will be looking to get back to winning ways against Brentford at Old Trafford this afternoon.

Ten Hag’s troops fell to their SIXTH defeat in ten matches on Tuesday night when they lost 3-2 to Galatasaray in their second Champions League group match.

The Red Devils are also toiling in the league, sitting in TENTH place in the Premier League table.

But Ten Hag insists he’s not fearing for his future at The Theatre of Dreams.

He said: “Last season: brilliant, terrific, more than we could expect but also when we went into this project we knew there would be common gaps and in this moment we are in a very difficult period, as everyone can see.

“But we come out together, we are fighting together, we are sticking together, behind each other.

“It’s me, the directors, the team, all together, we will fight and this is not us.

“We know we have to do better and in togetherness we will come out.”
