Brisbane detectives have charged a 49-year-old man with murder after an elderly man was allegedly thrown from a balcony in Yeronga, in Brisbane’s inner west, on Sunday afternoon.

Police will allege the 74-year-old victim was thrown from the first-floor balcony of a unit on School Road, striking the cement below and sustaining serious head injuries.

He was taken to the nearby Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he later died.

The two men were both Yeronga locals but were not known to each other, police said.

The 49-year-old man was detained at the scene and has been charged with one count of murder.

He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
