TEAM USA star Sam Burns mocked European fans after a successful putt on day two of the Ryder Cup.

The 27-year-old looked to spark an American fightback at the start of the fourballs on Saturday afternoon as he holed a birdie putt on the sixth from a few feet.

The superb shot silenced the European crowd who had been enjoying a dominant display from Luke Donald‘s side.

And Burns revelled in quietening the raucous Rome contingent as he cupped his ears to the fans.

He could then be heard saying: “What’s that? I can’t hear you. I can’t f***ing hear you.”

Burns and American team-mate Collin Morikawa went on to beat Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg 4&3.

It reduced the deficit to Europe to six points following a nightmare opening day and a half for Zach Johnson’s team.

USA have not won on European soil for 30 years.

Burns and Morikawa’s impressive performances saw them topple the formidable pair of Hovland and Aberg who had made Ryder Cup history earlier in the day.

The European pair clinched a remarkable 9&7 victory over World No1 Scottie Scheffler and five-time major winner Brooks Koepka.

After the incredible display, Hovland said: “We were playing two strong guys – the No1 in the world and a five-time major champion – and we did not give them anything.

“We played really, really solid. I don’t think we could have done a lot better.”

Team Europe require 14.5 points to reclaim the Ryder Cup, while USA require 14 to retain the trophy.
