Occasional Digest - a story for you

ELVIS Presley and Marilyn Monroe have been brought back from the dead using AI tech to see how they would look today as pensioners.

Marilyn Monroe, at 98, is a wizened star even though her candle burned out at 36 years old in 1962.

Designer Micah Daigle also imagined Princess Diana at 62, who died in a car crash in 1997.

Freddie Mercury is also at 77, who passed from bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS in 1991.

Elsewhere, recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) has led people being digitally reincarnated online, without permission.

These so-called ‘ghostbots’ are being made from the digital footprints people leave behind when they pass away, often in the form of old social media accounts.

The power of AI means these digital shadows can be turned into chatbots, deepfakes or even holographs that can replicate the voice, face and even personality of a dead person.

However, there is a risk that they will be hijacked by cyber criminals to target bereaved families for money.
