Occasional Digest - a story for you

A CAR expert who bought the UK’s cheapest EV says it was “terrible” and the range is rubbish.

Content creator The Autopian took to YouTube to share his experience with the £2,000 2011 Nissan Leaf.

The expert gets behind the wheel to drive from California’s Studio City to his pal’s home in Santa Monica to test the EV’s mileage.

“I don’t even know if this car is going to 13 miles so this is a huge risk, so let’s find out,” he began.

By the time the motorist arrives at his destination, he reveals the shocking extent of the EV battery’s depletion.

He continued: “I have only 15 miles of range left and I drove 12.5 miles.

“So we started at 36 so we lost 21 miles in 12.5 miles.

“If you live in a college town, this could be useable.

“But yep, this car is a bit of a stinker.”

Despite the motor’s shoddy battery, the user complimented the vehicle’s aesthetic.

“It is actually quite nice,” he admitted.

“Nice black paint and in excellent shape.

“The interior is fantastic, it’s in great shape overall. It’s a great car.

“It’s just so cheap because the battery is in such awful shape.”

It comes as one motors guru highlighted a key problem with EVs that shatters the idea that they make life easier.

The whizz, who is one half of podcasting duo The Broskiedoodles, expressed his frustration at the electric car industry on YouTube.

Elsewhere, an EV driver lifted the lid on the reality of owning an electric motor which no one talks about.

Driving pro Ped Greaves has owned his Ford Mustang Mach-E for two months – and says he loves the swish motor.

But he singled out two key criteria Brits should meet if they want to own an EV too.
