Occasional Digest - a story for you

A MUM who turned her post-pregnancy craving into a six-figure side hustle said she can’t keep up with demand for the bizzare snack.

Jasmin Piho, 33, randomly stumbled across an odd food combo when she was scrolling through social media one day just after giving birth to her son, Nemia, in 2021.

She became “mesmerised” by a woman who was pouring chilli sauce and spices onto sweet lollipops and was left wanting to try them instantly.

But as she stated researching the lollies to see if she could find them in her hometown of Sydney, Australia, Jasmin quickly realised they weren’t available down under.

What is known for being quite common on the streets of Mexico, the soft lollipops are drizzled in a chilli, lime and salt sauce with spices added.

Jasmin describes them as having a balanced flavour which enhances every tastebud.

But being unable to get hold of them left Jasmin with no choice but to make her own and start up a side-hustle.

Having her hands full with the newborn and her toddler daughter Mere, then three, Jasmin wanted to achieve something outside of motherhood.

With the aim of selling just a few lollies, she uploaded a video to TikTok of her making the treat.

The next morning, she woke up to nearly $3,000 in sales – and in the next year, she made $300,000.

Speaking to 7news, she said: “I couldn’t believe it – one of my videos had gone viral.

“I was so busy I couldn’t even look at how many orders came through.”

Struggling to keep up with the demand, the mum-of-two said she had three months worth of backlogged orders to try and send out.

Jasmin added: “After those three months, I looked at how much I spent with Australia Post – it was over $58,000!”

Trying to keep her customers interested and returning, Jasmin constantly searches for fresh ideas and mixes to add to her lollies.

And this year, the “mumtrepreneur” is looking to expand even further and make even more money.

It comes after a 16-year-old shared how she made millions when she started a side hustle at just six years old.

And one “really shy” lad who hated school and worked in Tesco spilt his secret about how he now bags more than pro footballers.
