However, she’s been going on camping holidays for more than 40 years, first going with her family when she was a child.

Since then, she has honed her cooking skills when on the go, with her caravan having a full set up with four gas hobs, a grill and an oven.

Despite this, there is one way to cook that she doesn’t advise.

Karen told Sun Online Travel: “Don’t try and use an oven when wanting to cook meals – the heat of it will make your caravan too hot.

“And when you’re in a hot country, it’s just too much.”

Her love of cooking while travelling inspired her upcoming book Meals on the Move which she wrote during a one-month trip around Europe with the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

The recipes in her new cookbook are all under 30 minutes and only use a hob.

Not only that, but Karen also says she also packs a gas BBQ even if she has cooking facilities inside.

She said: “I would always take a very small gas BBQ.

“Mine is tiny – it fits into a small bag – and it’s perfect for 2 people.

“I like to cook outside and use a gas BBQ as it means I can cook outside quickly.”

Using this method, she says she has made things such as a “cheats pizza” using a tortilla wrap on the hob, as well as mushroom bourguignon.

Karen added: “I only use one or two pans for each meal – I didn’t use fancy things like air fryers as I want all my recipes to suit everyone.”

Here are some of Karen’s other camping tips when it comes to cooking on the go.
