AN EXPERT car salesman has revealed five different way car dealerships are ripping you off.

Alongside his son, motors whizz Ray Shefska took to YouTube to disclose the “five dumbest things” car dealers can say to their customers.

In the video, Ray warned potential buyers to steer away if you hear the words “the factory insists”, as they will be most likely “conning” buyers.

“‘The factory insists that we charge a market adjustment’,” Ray said, impersonating fellow salesmen.

Ray explained car dealerships “always blame it on the factory” when there may well be other factors at play.

“The factory has a manufacturer suggested retail price and they know you’re not going to pay that in most cases.

“So for the dealer to insist that the factory’s the one insisting to charge more that’t just a lie.”

Ray goes on to detail another tricky phrase on his list: “The bank requires that you buy the extended warranty.”

He explained that doing so does not lower the interest rate.

“The bank would never require that you buy an extended warranty because the bank doesn’t care whether you buy one or not.

“It is just approving a loan.”

The third thing that all shoppers should be wary of is insisting that you take the motor with the add-ons.

These include “paint protection, interior protection, window tint or a LoJack”.

Ray explains: “This is a choice that the dealership has made, they don’t have to install on something that’s been ordered” – urging individuals to reject the added accessories.

The Youtuber is also sceptical of dealerships insisting there is “no profit” on the car, who will also go on to tell you that “the MSRP and invoice prices are the same”.

This is a fallacy which “only exists in the dealership world” he continues.

Ray concludes the shortlist with the popular line “‘if you don’t buy it, the next guy will”.

The motors guru retorts: “You know what, the next guy might but he also might not.

“There might not even be a next guy.”

It comes after an employee at a major car dealership has revealed a key skill that drivers tend to miss but which could save them thousands.

The expert, who works at Johnsons Cars in Solihull, West Midlands, took to YouTube to explain how some simple car maintenance jobs can be done at home for a fraction of the price.
