Jo Malone London has just released new scent English Pear & Sweet Pea, but it will set you back £55 for just 30ml.
So if you do splash out on a fragrance, here’s how to make it go further.
PULSE POINTER: To make an impression, aim for the pulse points — behind your knees, at the nape of your neck, and that little bend in your elbow.
Those areas emit the most heat, pushing your scent out all day.
EDP vs EDT: The concentration can significantly affect how long the scent lasts.
Eau de parfum contains higher fragrance concentration levels than eau de toilette.
If you are looking for a longer-lasting scent, invest in the EDP version and use less.
NOTE THIS DOWN: Not all smells are created equal. Look for perfumes that pack musky, woody notes over fruity or floral.
They are the marathon runners of fragrance, sticking with you through thick and thin.
It makes them a great investment buy.
BE INTENSE: Check the fragrance concentration levels before buying.
Perfumes with more perfume oil, such as those EDPs with 20 to 40 per cent, are the real deal for staying power.
If you want to smell as fresh as a daisy all day, look for the strong stuff, such as Guy Laroche Drakkar Intense, RRP £40 for 100ml.
It’s £29.99 at theperfumeshop.com.
SPRAY ’N STAY: Do not rub your wrists together after spraying.
This motion actually accelerates evaporation and alters the scent’s composition.
Instead, spray directly on to pulse points and leave it to dry.
LEARN TO LAYER: Start with a body lotion or cream that matches your perfume, then spray your scent on top.
Layering helps keep it alive throughout the day.
Adding a small amount of Vaseline to your pulse points also helps before spritzing.
The moisturising layer will lock in the fragrance, ensuring it stays active.
