Occasional Digest - a story for you

WE’VE had plenty of luck at Doncaster over the years — hopefully history repeats itself this week.

Because we are sending a big team up to South Yorkshire and I’ll be gutted if we don’t net a few winners.

The horse I’m most excited about today is SEE THE FIRE (3.00) in the Group 2 May Hill Stakes.

She is a filly we have held in the highest regard right from the get-go, and I was over the moon when she won on debut at Newmarket.

She is beautifully-bred, being by Sea The Stars and out of the top-class mare Arabian Queen, and we hope she has a very bright future.

She might lack the experience of one or two but that didn’t stop her at Newmarket.

The ground is a bit of a question mark, but I hope she will be fine.

She runs in the colours of Jeff Smith and he has been with us from the very start. If anyone deserves another star it is him.

We start off with three runners in the very valuable sales race, and they all have a similar profile.

IMPERIAL EXPRESS (2.25) is a horse with plenty of ability and he stepped up on his debut effort to finish third last time — though he’d like better ground.

AL SHABAB has done nothing wrong and was also a good third at Leicester, as was the talented CELTIC WARRIOR.

It might be a stretch to see any of them winning, but there is good prize-money all the way down to 10th so I’d be hopeful at least one of them will be in the frame.

NIGHT SPARKLE (3.35) goes in the Group 2 Park Hill, and she only arrived at the yard recently from Michael O’Callaghan’s.

She is a lovely big filly who beat a useful one of ours last time, but it’s a bit of a fact-finding mission for us as we continue to get to know her.

SISYPHUS STRENGTH (4.10) has been in good form of late and I think she was a little unlucky not to win at York last time out.

She has gone up in the weights again and would ideally like it a bit quicker, but she won’t be far away.

And CITY STREAK (4.45) has a very good chance under top-weight having won nicely at Ascot.

He will absolutely love the ground and he’s only gone up 4lb so will hopefully go close once again in a similar race.
