Kirstie — who presents Channel 4 property show Location, Location, Location with Phil, spoke of his “lovely, lovely family”.

And yesterday she told the BBC’s News podcast: “His sister was married yesterday, and today they’re all going to the pub for lunch.

“The same pub that his parents were on the way to when they died.

“He’s very stoical and pragmatic, and he feels very strongly that it was the right thing that his parents went together.”

Phil, 53, has said that he felt it was a “blessing” they “went together” in Littlebourne, Kent, after six decades of marriage.

He wrote on social media in a statement: “Very sadly both of my amazing parents died on Friday.

“As a family we are all trying to hold on to the fact Mum and Dad went together and that neither will ever have to mourn the loss of the other one. Which is a blessing.”

Co-host Kirstie wrote: “‘Such a brave and loving statement and so typical of you & your lovely family. So many people have you all in their thoughts and prayers. Xxx.’
