The lives of Mike, 52, and wife Andrea, 45, changed forever after they struck gold with a Lotto Lucky Dip in the October 2021.

The arts and photography teacher has now decided to ditch the classroom and splash the money on his long-term dream of becoming a novelist.

He said: “To me, winning the National Lottery isn’t about fast cars and speed boats, it’s about opportunity and making memories.

“I have been given this chance and I’m very lucky to be able to have a go at making a long-standing passion.”

Mrs Law discovered their good fortune after checking her lottery numbers as she rested in bed.

Stunned Mike thought it was a scam before a Camelot representative confirmed they had won £2million.

He added: “Having been through a tough few years, like many, and losing close family members just before the win, including my Mum, I realised life is very short and I had been given an unexpected opportunity.”

But despite becoming a millionaire, the dad-of-two continued working for the school.

The dedicated teacher wanted to make sure his pupils finished their GCSE before embarking in the new project.

The lucky couple said their lives remained the same – even after matching the six lucky numbers.

Andrea said: “We are very much the same, normal family. We no longer have the worry of a mortgage, which is a huge relief, but we want to remain grounded.

“Yes, we have had a few treats, we’ve been on a trip to Lapland, a dream of mine since we had the boys, but not a great deal more.”

Mike is now putting his love for history to use and writing a book about the medieval Anglo-Saxon burial site, Sutton Hoo.

The book of adventures is set in and around the former Roman city of Wroxeter, in Shropshire.

He explained: “It is an historical adventure novel with a dark twist.

“It’s set in Roman Britain in AD199 and is based around a group of legionaries and their adventures in and around Wroxeter in Shropshire.”

Mike is wants to make the most of the cash and invest it in his upcoming book.

He said: “I would love to find a literary agent and see my writing in print, but if not I may even publish the book myself.

“That’s the beauty of winning. It has given me the freedom to have a go and totally immerse myself in something I enjoy, I am deeply grateful for that opportunity.”
