Well not anymore, professional dry cleaner Jeeves shared his simple tips and tricks to get rid of grim smells for good.
First up, Jeeves recommended using baking soda and washing soda to neutralise any odours.
Not only is this is the most budget friendly option, but it’s pretty foolproof too.
The pro explained: “Baking and washing soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate and sodium carbonate, help raise the ph of your wash water which allows detergents to work better.
“Plus they are excellent with odour removal while costing next to nothing.”
Jeeves’ second tip is to use vinegar on your clothes, simply spritz a small amount directly on the smelly areas before you put them in the washing machine.
He said: “Treating odours at the source is one of the best things you can do to remove malodour!
“Once you’re done using your garment spray down those soiled or smelly areas and let those enzymes in the stain removing sprays do their thing.
“The longer these treatments sit on a stain the more effective they will be.”
You can also add enzyme boosters to your wash cycle, it’s slightly more expensive than the other two methods but the results don’t lie.
“Just put a scoop into your drum with your clothes and it’s going to help de-stink,” Jeeves said.
And finally, the pro suggested Enviroklenz’s laundry enhancer – although he admitted this is the most annoying and pricey of the bunch to use.
He said: [It] uses metal oxides (aluminium, magnesium, and zinc if my memory is correct) to remove odours.
“Add some to your detergent slot WITH DETERGENT and clean as recommended.
“This product is fairly straightforward but a bit clunky to use.”
