Occasional Digest - a story for you

EASTENDERS fans have accused the soap of ‘dumbing down’ character Stacey Slater as she fails to figure out Theo Hawthorne is her stalker.

BBC viewers are growing frustrated at “stupid” Stacey (Lacey Turner) as her stalker Theo (William Ellis) takes his obsession to the next level.

Stacey was left terrified after finding out her stalker had broken in to her home and ripped all her lingerie.

Consequently, she asked Theo to keep her company as she was afraid to be home alone.

Theo was thrilled his plan worked as he had to think of another way to be around Stacey after she stopped Lily’s (Lilia Turner) tutoring sessions.

Theo played the concerned friend while he changed the locks and kept the spare key.

What will Theo do next?

Meanwhile, fans are fuming that Stacey hasn’t worked out that Theo was the stalker after all of the warning signs.

Taking to X, formally known as Twitter, one said: “I hate when characters who aren’t stupid are written as stupid so the plot can work. Stacey would have realised it’s Theo by now.”

Another wrote: ‘How is Stacey not finding it strange that Theo is literally EVERYWHERE where she is?

“Appearing MOMENTS after she discovered the break in. Stacey open your eyes!!!!”

A third penned: “Why are they trying to portray Stacey as some thick idiot who wouldn’t see through the psycho? Totally out of character.”

A fourth added: “Stop dumbing this story down! Stacey should be smarter than this. All to prolong icky creepy’s existence.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
