An electrical fault has caused a power outage at Adelaide’s Flinders Medical Centre, with health authorities urging the community to find other care options if possible.
In a statement, the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network said a “significant electrical fault” this afternoon had caused a power interruption.
“Essential power” has been activated and technicians are currently on site.
“We ask the community to please seek alternative care options where possible, however emergency care remains available if needed,” the statement reads.
The hospital has been closed to visitors, unless it is for exceptional circumstances, while technicians work to restore power.
Paul Roberts from SA Power Networks said the outage had been caused by a fault within the hospital’s electrical system.
“We are continuing to supply the hospital with power,” he said.
“Major hospitals… have two supplies from us, they have a main feeder and a back-up feeder. There was a trip on the main feeder and their equipment should switch over to accept power from our back-up feeder but that hasn’t happened.”
