Matildas defender Alanna Kennedy has endured a torrid end to this stunning Women’s World Cup.
So, in the quarterfinal against France, she had an absolute mission covering Kadidiatou Diani and could easily have been carded after dragging her back following a botched clearance in the first half.
She then headed into her own goal deep in the second half, but fortunately the own goal was waved away because of a foul from French captain Wendie Renard on Caitlin Foord.
Kennedy had a looooong concussion test during that game, but was allowed to play on.
But she was the ONLY Matilda on the field who didn’t take a penalty in that famous 20-shot shootout. EVEN THE GOALIE GOT A GO BEFORE HER!
She then missed the semifinal against England and wasn’t even allowed to attend a packed Stadium Australia because of “illness”.
And now she’s missing the Matildas’ final game of this tournament because of delayed concussion symptoms.
So rough for a stalwart of Australia’s defensive line.
