DARYL Powell hopes getting away from it all can help reinvigorate Warrington’s faltering season.

A week off after they were knocked out of the Challenge Cup meant a chance for players to rest aches and pains.

But the Wolves boss also managed to escape rugby league and he feels doing that could help them charge towards the play-offs.

Powell said: “It was my birthday during the break, so I went away with my wife and spent some time at Coniston then on Shell Island in Wales.

“I just chilled out and some of the players got away too. Sometimes it’s important to do that when you’re under pressure constantly.

“They just need that headspace and when things aren’t going well, it’s more important. You get judged pretty heavily in professional sport and social media, you don’t really want to be reading that stuff.

“It was a break we didn’t really want but given where we’ve been at, it came at a good time for us.

“They say about a book, ‘You don’t really remember what’s in the middle as long as it’s got a good start and a good end.’ We need to have a good end, we’ve got a good opportunity now to really go after it.”

Powell could welcome back several players back for today’s trip to basement boys Wakefield.

But he believes Trinity will be a much tougher test than they were when they lost week after week, leaving him feeling for opposite number Mark Applegarth.

He added: “It’s a tough occupation when you’re losing every week. We played them at home and went 12-0 up before they came back.

“I said to Mark afterwards, ‘Mate, you’ve got spirit there and when you’ve got that, you’re going to have a chance.’

“It’s been proven after the club held firm with him.”
