Travis Kelce punches Chiefs teammate, says he must be ‘better leader’

Fans gasped at Kansas City Chiefs training camp practice on Saturday when Travis Kelce threw a punch.

At Missouri Western State University, the All-Pro tight end caught a touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes over linebacker Leo Chenal and then linebacker Jack Cochrane came over and wrapped him up.

Kelce immediately dropped the ball and threw a right hook into Cochrane’s back. The two shared a few words and a few shoves in the end zone before cornerback Trent McDuffie came and broke them up.

This makes back-to-back days in which Kelce was involved in a skirmish with a teammate. On Friday, he got into a spat with cornerback DiCaprio Bootie after a play.

Kelce posted on social media Saturday after the punch and reflected on his role as a veteran. He has been integral to the team’s success and was third in the league last year in receptions (100) and second in receiving touchdowns (12).

“Gotta be a better teammate gotta be a better leader… plain and simple,” he said.

The Chiefs are coming off their second Super Bowl win, and third appearance, in four years. This past championship featured a matchup of Kelce and his older brother, Jason, who plays center for the Philadelphia Eagles.
