If you’re facing a holiday heatwave at home or abroad, these budget beauty tricks will keep you cool.
BRIGHT EYES: Fancy eye gels and creams are great, but you can use two spoons to quickly cool and depuff eyes.
Pop two metal spoons in the freezer overnight and take them out in the morning. Run them under the tap, dry them, then hold them under your eyes to restrict blood vessels and smooth skin.
ICE TRY: A new make-up artist beauty trick is to freeze your toner in an ice cube tray overnight.
Rub the ice cube over your face in the morning to cool skin and tighten it in the process.
LIGHT UP: Switch to a lightweight moisturiser. Heavy creams will only make your skin feel more oily and uncomfortable in the heat.
Instead, try a lightweight moisturiser that will hydrate without weighing you down. You don’t need to buy a new moisturiser — just add a dash of toner to one you already have to dilute it.
SHINE-FREE: Blotting papers are great for absorbing excess oil and keeping your make-up looking fresh all day.
A pack of 100 DHC blotting papers is reduced from £5.99 to £4.78 at Superdrug.
Or you could make your own using kitchen greaseproof paper.
Cut it into squares and keep in your bag to get rid of mid-afternoon shine.
DON’T SWEAT IT: Sweating inevitably leads to chafing in the heat. Avoid nasty blisters and sore patches by rubbing Vaseline on the area in the morning.
Get a 50ml pot for £1.80 at Boots and it doubles as a lip balm, plus it will keep eyebrows in place.
For DIY deodorant, one blogger recommends a ¼ cup of solid coconut oil mixed with three tablespoons of baking powder.
SUN SAVIOUR: For sunburn, pick up a tube of Nuage Aloe Vera Gel at Amazon for £3. Add a tablespoon to water in a spray bottle to use as a cooling face spritz in the heat.
