A man tasered multiple times and shot with bean bag rounds while being arrested by police in Melbourne’s south has died in hospital.
Victoria Police said the 46-year-old Frankston North man had barricaded himself inside a house on Hickory Crescent on Thursday, and a four-hour stand-off ensued.
The man was armed with knives and was agitated, and attempts by officers to negotiate with him were unsuccessful, police said.
He was tasered multiple times and shot with bean bag rounds. After becoming unresponsive he was given medical care and taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Police said the man died in hospital this morning.
Homicide Squad detectives will prepare a report for the coroner due to the man dying in police custody.
The Professional Standards Command will oversee the investigation.
