Hungarian Grand Prix Odds, Predictions, and Tips for 2023

Occasional Digest - a story for you

ROUND 12 of the 2023 Formula 1 season is just around the corner, and we aren’t short of storylines at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, July 23. There’s the imperious form of Max Verstappen and Red Bull, who have racked up a record matching eleven consecutive wins and are unsurprisingly the odds-on favourites to continue the streak.

There’s the hotly anticipated return of Daniel Ricciardo, replacing Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri. There’s the race for second, with Perez, Alonso and Hamilton all within touching distance of each other. On this page, we’ve got all the details you need to know in advance of the race, betting tips and the latest Hungarian Grand Prix odds.

F1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2023 betting preview

It’s Max Verstappen’s world right now, and we’re just living in it. The Red Bull driver is utterly dominating the field at the moment, with eight victories and two second place finishes in the first ten races of the calendar. All of this is very much reflected in the winning odds, with Max at a prohibitive 1/3 with most bookmakers.

Things get a lot more interesting just behind him however, with Sergio Perez (the only other winner in Formula 1 this year), the ageless Fernando Alonso and a (somewhat) resurgent Lewis Hamilton jostling for position at around the 14/1 mark. Hamilton in particular has picked up three podiums in his last four races and as yet has not agreed on a new contract for the 2024 season. A statement win – perhaps to coincide with a contract announcement – doesn’t feel too far off.

Inevitably, the return of Daniel Ricciardo is going to attract a lot of interest and likely betting action. At around 250/1 a win seems pretty far fetched, but you can find value if you get a little more creative with the markets.

Outside of the top handful of favourites, there are a couple of drivers in the pack showing signs of form, including Lando Norris and George Russell, both of whom are trending in the right direction after good showings in Austria and the British Grand Prix.

F1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2023 betting tips and odds

Check out our experts’ top selections for this week in Hungary, including some suggestions for navigating a market dominated by Max Verstappen.

Daniel Ricciardo top 6 finish – 25/1 (10bet)

OK, hear us out before you start accusing us of romantic or wishful thinking. Daniel Ricciardo likes this track. He’s won around here before and has only finished outside of the top eight 3 times since 2014. What’s more, Daniel is a big personality who you know won’t be expecting to tiptoe back in under the radar. 25/1 is a big price to sneak into the top 6 – as it should be for someone making his season debut in July –  but we’re here for it.

Both Mercedes drivers to finish on the podium – 10/1 (SkyBet)

So much of successful Formula 1 betting is about identifying streaks and getting in on the action early. It’s been a complicated couple of years for Mercedes, but things have been looking bright in recent weeks for both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. Hamilton for his part is on a run of three podiums in his last four races, and has only finished worse than 6th once this season. Russell has been in and around the podium all year and is trending nicely, with a third, seventh and fifth in the last three races he finished. Both are good candidates for the podium in Hungary.

Esteban Ocon Winner without Max Verstappen – 150/1 (Unibet)

Verstappen’s dominance is really distorting the odds in Formula 1 at the moment: it just feels stupid to bet against him to win but it’s equally hard to see any value at odds of 1/3 to win. Lots of bookmakers, like Unibet for instance, offer a market on the winner without Verstappen and this is where you can find a lot more value. You could make a case for several drivers here, but we’re going to take a bit of a flyer with Esteban Ocon at 150/1. The Frenchman was the last driver not named Max Verstappen to win in Hungary, when he beat Lewis Hamilton to the top spot in 2021.

How to bet on the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2023

Betting on the Hungarian Grand Prix is very simple. If you’ve ever bet with a UK online bookmaker, you’ll have absolutely no problem. For beginners, we’re breaking it down as simply as possible with our step-by-step guide:

  • Sign Up – the first step is to choose a sportsbook and create an account. Signing up is a pretty simple process that just involves giving the bookie some standard personal information and verifying your identity is accurate. That includes your name, date of birth, email address, phone number, and physical address. Don’t forget to also claim your welcome offer when you sign up too, which you can read more about in our list of recommended sites above.
  • Top up your account – once your account has been created it’s time to deposit some money. Head to the cashier section and follow the instructions to make a transfer. You usually can choose between a variety of different payment methods, including bank cards, bank transfers and e-wallets like Skrill or Neteller to name a few.
  • Find your bet – you’ll find the Formula 1 or Motor Racing section in the list of sports, where you can navigate to the Hungarian Grand Prix markets. Find the best you want to place and click on the odds to add it to the digital betslip.
  • Confirm your bet – on the betslip you can test out different stakes or add more selections to create an accumulator. Once you’re happy with your bet and your stake, click the button to lock it in. Winning bets are settled very quickly after the race.

Which driver is the favourite to win the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2023?

Max Verstappen, and it’s not a close run thing. The Dutch driver is absolutely dominating the sport right now, one hundred points ahead of his nearest competitor in the Driver’s Championship, and a massive favourite in Hungary at around 1/3.

Which team is the favourite for the win Hungarian Grand Prix in 2023?

Again, unsurprisingly, it’s very much Red Bull who are going for their record breaking 12th consecutive win. Max’s teammate Sergio Perez is the only other man to record a victory in Formula 1 this season after winning in Jeddah and Baku. Red Bull are also around 1/3 to get the win, with Ferrari next in the odds at around 4/1.

What alternative F1 betting markets are there for the Hungarian Grand Prix 2023?

Outright winner bets are generally the most popular market associated with Formula 1, but they are by no means the only show in town. And with Verstappen so dominant and at prohibitively short odds, it makes a lot of sense to look at alternatives. Some other popular betting options are below.

  • Winning team – Rather than individual drivers, you can also bet on which team will win. This is effectively a double chance bet, since you are rooting for either player from a single team.
  • Podium finish – Betting on a player to make the podium (or finish in the top three) is a popular way to bet that mitigates some of the risks of betting on winners only.
  • Fastest lap – Bet on which driver will record the fastest lap in the race. You can combine the fastest lap and a winner bet for a popular double.
  • Head-to-head – Another great way to bet if you want to stay away from winners and find some value on some of the outsiders. Head-to-head bets let you pit specific players against each other, with the results of the other drivers not relevant to the outcome of your bet.

Where is the Hungarian Grand Prix Formula 1 race held?

The Hungarian Grand Prix will be held at the 4.381km Hungaroring in Budapest.

Who won the 2023 British Grand Prix?

The 2023 British Grand Prix was won by Max Vertappen, his eighth win in ten races this season. Lando Norris was second, while Lewis Hamilton came third.

What bookie has the best odds for the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2023?

A huge part of being a successful bettor is being disciplined enough not to just accept the first odds you find and instead shop around for the best prices. Normally, there’s not really a simple answer for what site consistently has the best odds, but some have a better record than others.

Regarding the Hungary Grand Prix, it’s very hard to look past bet365. Not only do they regularly have the most varied menu of F1 betting markets, but their odds are consistently the best value out there. Charles Leclerc for instance, depending on where you bet on him, has odds of anywhere between 14/1 and 20/1 with the latter available at bet365. Whatever kind of bet you’re looking for, it’s never a bad idea to start your research process at bet365.

We also want to shout out BetUK here, who have some extremely generous odds on some of the less popular bets. Lots of UK sportsbooks set a limit for their winner odds at 500/1 or 1000/1. With BetUK you can back some of the lesser lights in the field for between 1500/1 and 2000/1. If you’re planning a flutter on someone outside the main conversation, BetUK is the one for you
