She said that critics won’t keep her from using the popular Swedish brand for her home projects.
In a recent video, realtor and designer Lisa Herland (@lisaherland) cheekily responded to one of the naysayers.
They previously asked: “All that just to fill it with tatty decoration?”
“Yes! That is what it was made for!” responded Herland. She also revealed a hack for Ikea’s Billy Bookcase, $89.
She and a helper put together the bookcase and set it up against a wall. They then painted it white and placed decor on the shelves.
The white pieces and pink storage boxes elevated the overall look of the final result, impressing people in the comments.
One viewer wrote: “I love it!”
“I guess I like tatty decorations. whatever that means,” added another.
There was also a commenter who reminded everyone that the Billy Bookcase is meant to be versatile and transformative.
She wrote: “These shelves just aren’t made for bookcases. They’re literally made for decorations.”
In another video, Herland amazed TikTokers with her upgrade to a set of Ikea Brimnes cabinets, $119.
Instead of leaving them white, she covered them with pole wrap material and created new knobs using circular wood blocks.
Once completed, the cabinets looked like an expensive piece of midcentury furniture and hardly like they were basic Ikea pieces.
