Occasional Digest - a story for you

Labor has conceded defeat in the Fadden by-election with LNP candidate Cameron Caldwell projected to win the Fadden by-election.

The Coalition has easily retained the Gold Coast in the federal by-election, triggered by the resignation of former frontbencher Stuart Robert.

Mr Caldwell, a Gold Coast City councillor, beat out a field of 13 candidates to win the seat.

Speaking at Labor HQ, Senator Murray Watt said the result is not a surprise.

“We may have to keep fighting and we’ve achieved that objective so that a really great outcome,” he said.

Labor candidate Letitia Del Fabbro said she was proud in the campaign she has run.

We knew this was always going to be an uphill battle, so I guess it has always been an important message to the LNP to not take the Gold Coast for granted,” she said.

More to come.
