Visitors were told at the start of the £35 guided tour last month that the bins could be used as normal and were not props.

And one tourist, who did not want to be named, spotted the files when they disposed of a bottle.

They told The Sun on Sunday: “I was putting a bottle in the dustbin and the script was just there.

“It was a normal black bin on the set behind where the props for Chloe Harris’s house are.

“I just went to put a plastic bottle in and all of a sudden I saw the scripts, so I snapped a photo of them.

“The idea that such a famous production would leave scripts just lying around like that really is shocking, especially when in the wrong hands it could be used for other, more sinister reasons.”

Watermarks on the scripts label them as “confidential” material belonging to a member of set staff.

They reveal developments in the storyline involving entrepreneur Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) and dad Rishi (Bhasker Patel).

Viewers found out earlier this month that Jai was adopted, a revelation he has since struggled to come to terms with.

Other documents found on set at the Harewood Estate near Leeds include a floor map of the Emmerdale village’s buildings, with arrows detailing the location of cameras and floor managers.

The Sun on Sunday has agreed with ITV not to share spoilers for the storylines.

ITV said: “We do take security very seriously as we know our audience don’t like knowing plotlines in advance.

“We will try to get to the bottom of how these scripts went missing.”
