Occasional Digest - a story for you

Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo will make his return to Formula One racing at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Ricciardo, who has been a support driver for Red Bull this season, will drive for AlphaTauri for the remainder of the 2023 F1 season.

The  34-year-old West Australian will replace Dutchman Nyck de Vries, who has enjoyed a less than stellar debut season for AlphaTauri, recording zero points.

Ricciardo had earlier on Wednesday tested the Red Bull at Silverstone, recording fast lap times.

“I am stoked to be back on track with the Red Bull family,” Ricciardo said.

AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost revelled in the news as well.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Daniel back into the team,” Tost said.

“There’s no doubt about his driving skills, and he already knows many of us, so his integration will be easy and straight forward.

“The team will also profit a lot from his experience, as he is an eight-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner.”

Ricciardo had lost his drive with McLaren at the end of 2022 after two tumultuous seasons at the team, and his return for Red Bull’s feeder team may only fuel rumours he could be back alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull in 2024.
