The coffee specialist (@whiterosecoffee) shared the advice with her TikTok followers.

“You’ve been making iced lattes wrong your whole life,” she said.

“The cup with ice is pretty standard but usually everyone’s next step is to add the espresso and I’m here to tell you not to do that.”

She explained that in the same way dry ice burns hands, regular ice will burn espresso since it’s coming out of the machine extremely hot.

“This is going to make your coffee taste watery and over-extracted,” she said.

“By adding the milk first, you’ll avoid shocking the espresso and end up with that perfect cafe creaminess.”

People took to the comments to share their thoughts on her tip.

Other baristas green-lighted her tip.

“As a barista this is how to make an iced latte!!” said one.

“Starbucks standard is NOT the only way to make coffee. Most coffee shops do not follow Starbucks.”

“I add espresso to milk, then add to ice,” suggested another.

“I read this in an article. It makes a difference!!!!”

“This is a great way to do it too!” the barista replied.

“Basically you want to bring the espresso to temp without shocking & watering it down. So worth the extra steps!”
