The video of her find has gone viral, capturing the public imagination to such an extent that so far there have been over 1.3 million likes and thousands of comments.

This home conversion in Arkansas started out like any other, but there could be very few who ended up with a feature piece like the one GlassyEm (@funkyglassworks) uncovered.

Her delight was obvious. “Guess what we found under the floor in the house we just bought,” she said as she panned the camera around her new property.

The room in question was huge. Sun poured through the many windows and the floor was covered in wooden boards. A large brick fireplace was at one end.

But this lady decided to replace their wooden boards and it was one heck of a job. “Ripping up this flooring and the subflooring took forever,” she said.

The effort, however, was more than worth it because an architectural treasure started to emerge from the depths.

The first sign of something special lying beneath was the teasing view of a tiled, submerged hot tub.

But there was far more yet to be discovered. As the layers of boards and underflooring came up it became clear there was something out of the ordinary in this living room.

She found an “entire empty indoor swimming pool that took up the entire space of the room.”

It was an extraordinary sight. The pool appeared to be intact. The only thing missing was the water.

Plans were afoot to do something with this unusual feature. “Our current idea is to turn it into an indoor koi pond and atrium with lots of plants,” she said.

“Maybe restore the hot but for now, it’ll be an indoor skate park.”

Commenters were as gobsmacked as GlassEm was.

“Omg that’s not what I was expecting,” said one fan.

Another said: “I dunno what I was expecting but it wasn’t that. Such a cool find.”

The final commenter urged them not to change anything: “I’d return it to old glory and be able to swim at home in peace,” they said
