Facialist Nicola Russell, who owns the clinic Skin Geek in Falkirk, revealed five skincare products that you can save some cash on.

The first product beauty fans can save on is a moisturiser.

Nicola said: “I don’t think moisturisers need to take up a large part of your beauty budget, splurge on the serum and layer over with an inexpensive moisturiser.

“Your moisturiser will create protective film and trap in your serum and prevent moisture loss.

“They are formulated in a way that they can’t absorb that well, unlike a serum.

“Also, not everyone needs a moisturiser anyway, so for some it can technically be a step you can skip all together.”

Beauty fans also don’t have to splurge on make up wipes, Nicola revealed.

As they are only made to break down make up, the skincare expert thinks that you can cut down on the expense spent on the product.

She added: “First of all, they are designed to break down make up, they aren’t really designed to be cleansing your skin.

“So an expensive product JUST to remove make up is too much of a luxury for me, as your skin needs a cleanser after this step anyway.”

Another item which you can save on is toner as these products do not need to be expensive to work.

Nicola stated: “Toners can be a bit controversial and not everyone uses them, but I do use them and unless you have a skin condition then cheap and cheerful will do.”

You also don’t need to spend a fortune on precleanse products, Nicola revealed.

She added: “A product JUST to remove make up doesn’t need to cost the earth.

“There are lots of inexpensive ingredients that break down make up that can be formulated into this product, so save your pennies on this step.”

And the final product the skincare expert said you should save your money on is neck cream.

It’s not really a product many beauty fans use but using your normal moisturiser or serum usually does the job.

Nicola said: “I actually use a neck cream that’s on the pricier side, but using a separate neck cream isn’t top of my list for clients when recommending a skincare routine to follow.

“A good neck product should provide plenty of hydration to replace what it naturally lacks, and hard-working key ingredients to firm and tone this delicate area.

“Just carrying on down the neck with your face serums and moisturisers should make a big difference, as a lot of people stop their routine just below the jaw area.”
