Pop singer Bebe Rexha had to be taken to the hospital after an audience member threw a phone at her during a concert, the New York Police Department confirmed in a statement to USA TODAY Monday.
Rexha “was removed by EMS to an area hospital in stable condition,” police said.
Nicolas Malvagna, a 27-year-old man from New Jersey, has been arrested and charged with assault, the statement added.
Thankfully, Rexha appears to be recovering from the incident. On Monday morning, the “I’m Good (Blue)” singer posted two selfies to her Instagram that showed her with an apparent black eye and laceration on her eyelid. “Im good,” Rexha captioned the post.
The pop star was performing in New York for her “Best F’n Night of My Life Tour” when she had to stop her concert early, according to videos and tweets from fans who attended the show.
“Absolutely great show ruined by a fan throwing their phone at @BebeRexha,” Twitter user Alex Chavez posted on Sunday night. Chavez also shared a video of Rexha falling to the ground after she was hit.
Another user shared a photo of Rexha being escorted off stage after the incident while still covering her forehead.
“This is Bebe Rexha being rushed out of the concert venue here in NYC after someone threw a (expletive) phone and hit her face as she was leaving the stage,” @RossBernaud posted Monday. “We were all having a hell of a good time and so was Bebe, we were all having a blast, I mean who would even do that???”
Fans have already begun sharing their support for the star, calling her a “resilient queen” and wishing her a speedy recovery.
“People need to STOP throwing stuff on stage and at artists. I hope you heal quickly!!” Instagram user @ajprattster wrote Monday.
