A 28-year-old police officer has died from injuries sustained in the line of duty, days after being run over by a car in the Perth suburb of Ascot.

Constable Anthony Woods, who had been serving in the force for only a few years, stopped a vehicle with allegedly stolen number plates with his colleagues at 1am on Thursday, June 8.
Police said the vehicle came to a stop in Ascot Place, and officers tried to detain the three occupants in the car, and the constable was then run over, dragged and pinned underneath the car.
The announcement came via a statement from police on Sunday evening.
“The WA Police Force today mourns the passing of constable Anthony Woods, who succumbed to injuries suffered in the line of duty, while attending an incident in Ascot earlier this week,” the statement read.
“Constable Anthony Woods exemplified the values of the WA Police Force, and his memory will be forever etched in our hearts.
“Police extend heartfelt condolences to Anthony’s family, colleagues, and all those who knew and loved him.”
The constable had been in hospital in critical condition since the incident.
WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch is expected to address the media on Monday.
A 23-year-old man, Reagan Ainsley Chown, has been charged over the incident.
