One place where they can’t go wrong is Gourock pool in Scotland, which people have compared to being in the Caribbean.

The pool offers open air swimming in heated saltwater, as well as spectacular views of the Clyde Estuary.

The vista from the pool takes in Holy Loch, Loch Long and Gare Loch the other side of the estuary and the picturesque hills in between.

The pool has been refurbished with modern and contemporary changing facilities, and also has a pool terrace for sunbathing.

As well as sunny swimming, it also offers people the chance to swim beneath the night sky as part of its “starlight swims”.

The heated pool and the stars create the “perfect atmosphere” according to Inverclyde Leisure who maintains it.

They say: “There’s no better way to make the most of fresh, crisp summer evenings than with a starlight swim under a clear sky and glistening stars.

“Take a night-time dip in our open air pool and let the warmth of the pool create the perfect atmosphere.”

The lido has plenty of fans as well, with University of Glasgow teacher Dominic Hinde describing it as “hands down the best pool in Scotland”.

Others have been full of praise for it on TripAdvisor, with some even saying they felt like they were abroad.

One wrote: “I could have been in the Caribbean or Italy, where I was just back from.

“It was glorious, sun was shining and when you look up at the sky you could be anywhere in the world.”

Another wrote: “Chilling out on the sun loungers after my swims made me think this could have been mistaken for somewhere abroad. I loved it and will make this a part of my routine now!”

Gourock was also listed on the Guardian‘s list of the country’s best lidos last summer.

They said: “With tickets no more than £5, this charming and no-frills heated lido is the oldest in dear Alba, with stellar views across the Clyde estuary.”

Meanwhile, these are some of the best places in the south to go wild swimming during the warmer months.

And these UK hotels have outdoor pools you can use this summer.
