Going to the pub is more important to my husband than our marriage

Occasional Digest - a story for you

DEAR DEIDRE: I’M desperate to visit my brother’s new holiday home in Spain, but my husband would rather spend the weekend down the pub and can’t be bothered.

We haven’t been abroad for over ten years and I’d really like to see a bit more of the world but he simply isn’t interested.

I’m 57 and he’s 59.

I feel like he has checked out of our marriage.

We both work full- time and he spends most nights down at the pub catching up with all the regulars down there.

Then when he comes home he wants sex, which I never enjoy because he’s drunk and there is no consideration there at all.

DEIDRE SAYS: It does sound like your husband is being very inflexible.

You need to have a conversation with him about how you feel.

Let him know you are happy to compromise but he needs to start considering you.
