White is a popular colour for brides to wear and it is important that the bride stands out on her wedding day.
Regularly a guest wearing white can be seen as an attempt to upstage the bride, the same rule applies to wearing white lace too.
So unless the bride and groom have specifically requested for guests to wear the colour, it is best to avoid.
But for one bride, she was left in shock after her guest decided to wear a white lace dress to her wedding.
In a post on Reddit, she shared a picture of the guest and said: “My tenth wedding anniversary is approaching, and as I was going through photos, I stumbled across this one of one of my husband’s groomsmen and his wife, who wore a literal white lace dress to our wedding.
“To be fair, it was incredibly, incredibly short and very, very tight, so I’m not sure anyone mistook her for ‘the bride,’ but it was… something.”
This left many Reddit users stunned, and some even rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts.
Some even admitted they mistook the woman for the bride.
One wrote: “Sometimes I think people are too strict about the white rule, but holy hell, if you told me that was YOU in your wedding dress I would have believed you. It’s even lacy!!!!”

A second replied: “There is no such thing as too strict. There are millions of colors. Pick any of them but white. Too strict would be banning white dress shirts.”
Someone else added: “Yes, I’m the same. Sometimes I’m like ‘nah that’s fine, or mother of the brides are fine,’ but this dress is absolutely ridiculous for a wedding guest.
“I thought it was the bride!”
Another questioned: “This was from your own wedding and this is the wife of one of the groomsmen? She’s wearing a wedding dress, hands down.”
The post’s author replied: “Yeah… They were a special pair. We asked the wedding party to wear something nice they already owned, because most of them were early career veterinarians with student loans who travelled from out of town. For the most part, people looked amazing and the photos are wonderful.
“This dude showed up looking like he was going to a funeral and his wife showed up looking like she was at her own wedding.”
