Liverpool vs Aston Villa betting tips

Jurgen Klopp’s men are a point behind Manchester United heading into the weekend – and have played one game more.

Newcastle in third are four points clear having both played 36 games, meaning they are all but secured of a top four spot.

Liverpool have Villa at home before an away trip at relegated Southampton on the final day.

They’re well aware that they need favours from elsewhere and might have left their exceptional run a little too late.

They’ve won seven on the bounce and looked like missing out on Europe altogether before this run.

Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were confirmed to be leaving the club at the end of the season and are set for a special send-off.

They’re up against a Villa side who have been mightily impressive in recent weeks.

A 2-1 win over Spurs last time out kept them well in the hunt for a European spot and just a point off Brighton in the final Europa League spot.

Granted they’ve played a game more but they’ve nothing to lose here which makes them a dangerous proposition.

They’ve taken 22 points from their last ten games – only Manchester City and Liverpool have taken more.

And they’ve lost just five goals in that period too, the meanest defence in that spell.

Liverpool have won the last five meetings between the sides and are short odds to keep that run going.

John McGinn-to them

The Aston Villa skipper has rejuvenated himself under Unai Emery.

Pundits have spoken recently that the Scotland international was used out of position earlier on in the season, with Emery getting the best out of him as a major reason for the Villa upturn in form.

Can do both sides of the game well but will spend plenty of time without the ball here you’d imagine.

With an average of just under two tackles every game in the league this year, he can go above average here.

Both ends

Five of the last six meetings between these sides have ended with both teams scoring.

Yet there hasn’t been a draw in this fixture in the last 14 runnings.

Villa have been a bit stingier in the conceding departments recently – just three lost in their last four games – but you’d fancy Liverpool to score.

Same with Villa, they’re a side with an attacking threat and can get on the scoresheet but keep that drawless run going.

Dutch courage

Not quite sure this counts as a courageous punt given the money he was signed for.

But Cody Gakpo hasn’t scored at Anfield since THAT 7-0 win over Manchester United.

More or less a mainstay in the team despite several attacking stars returning from injury in recent weeks.

Good price to score anytime at 9/5 but that courage in us is taking him to strike first.
