Dannii Minogue to donate I Kissed a Boy song profits to LGBTQ+ helpline

Occasional Digest - a story for you

Dannii Minogue has announced that profits from ‘We Could Be the One’, the theme song of ‘I Kissed a Boy’, will be donated to Switchboard.

The new BBC Three series made history as the UK’s first-ever same-sex dating show.

Hosted by Dannii and narrated by Bad Education star Layton Williams, ‘I Kissed a Boy’ follows 10 singletons who are paired up and share a kiss the first time they meet.

“No small talk. No messages. Just one kiss to test out their chemistry straight away. Will it be a polite peck? Or a passionate snog? And ultimately, will that first kiss lead to love?” reads the synopsis.

“I Kissed a Boy is packed with explosive drama, gripping cliffhangers and powerful untold stories – from coming out in a strict religious family, to the pressures of body image in the gay dating scene, to navigating self-acceptance, sex and first same-sex relationships.”

In an exclusive interview with GAY TIMES, Dannii previously described the show as “camp, camp and more camp!”

“Just when you thought it wasn’t camp enough, in comes a Minogue!” she continued. “It’s such a great show. I am so proud of it. I am so proud of BBC Three for finally putting this on because it’s time. I can’t believe it’s taken this long, from everybody wanting a gay dating show to there actually being one. It still blows my mind.”

The star has since announced that all profits from her song ‘We Could Be the One’ will be donated to Switchboard, a national LGBTQ+ helpline that has been running for more than 49 years.

Danni paid a visit to the team’s office in London in May, where she praised the “wonderful human beings” who volunteer there and encouraged those who need help to call.

Shortly after her visit, Switchboard took to Twitter to thank Dannii for her time and donating her song’s profits to the charity: “We are so grateful that she took the time out of her busy schedule in the UK promoting #ikissedaboy on @bbcthree and her forthcoming single ‘We Could Be The One’ (in which all of the proceeds go to Switchboard) to come by and see us! We are super fans forever!!”
