An emergency warning has been issued for an out-of-control bushfire heading toward homes in the south-eastern fringe of Perth.
The bushfire in Whitby in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale started near the intersection of South Western Highway and Reilly Road and was reported to authorities just before 5am.
The emergency warning is in place for people in an area bounded by South Western Highway to the east, Kiernan Road and Galvin Road to the south, Evelyn Street to the west and Reilly Road to the north.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) said the blaze was not contained or controlled, and there was a threat to lives and homes.
The bushfire is moving in a westerly direction.
DFES is warning residents they are in danger and need to act immediately to survive.
It said it was safe for people in the emergency warning area to leave in a westerly direction.
Firefighters are on the scene, actively fighting the fire.
A number of roads have been closed, including Kiernan Road from South Western Highway to Tinspar Avenue.
