The fury came as Bradley Walsh presided over the show once again as four more players battled it out to win big money on today’s show.
In their way was Chaser Darragh Ennis, 43, who aimed to put a stop to them taking home the cash on the programme.
However, for one contestant it seemed as though it was the show’s bosses he needed to be more concerned about than Darragh after they denied his ‘correct’ answer.
The extraordinary mishap came during the tense final chase and forced Bradley Walsh to deny the player of a point.
As George, Ailsa, Sarah and Gary battled it out, they were stopped in their tracks when George was refused his answer.
The 23 year old from Victoria, London was asked by Brad: “The term carjack is a blend of car and what other word.”
With just seconds left on the clock, George confidently answered: “Hijacked.”
However, Brad was quick to shut him down and tell him his answer was incorrect.
The TV host said: “Hijack!”
He then moved on but there was not enough time to answer any further questions.
When the round was over, Bradley remarked: “Bad luck with hijacked, we needed hijack.”
The decision left fans furious as they threatened to issue a series of complaints over the refused answer.
Writing online, one fan said: “Yet again #TheChase is a joke. Hijakck/Hijacked. Who gives a f***!”
They then added: “I’m going to write a strongly-worded email.”
Another fumed: “So harsh that Bradley couldn’t accept hijacked instead of hijack.”
A third penned of the incident: “Hijack vs Hijacked are you joking?”
Whilst a fourth said: “Hijack not hijacked is a bit harsh. Especially at the speed Brad is reading, hard to tell if he said Carjack or carjacked.”
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
