Occasional Digest - a story for you

Good morning Red Devils fans

Manchester United lost in heartbreaking fashion at Brighton – thanks to a 99th-minute Aleix Mac Allister penalty.

Eleven days on from beating the Seagulls in a Wembley shootout, United were hit with the late sucker-punch after Luke Shaw’s handball.

Mac Allister kept his nerve, sending David De Gea the wrong way as he blasted into the top corner.

Erik ten Hag said: “We have to be more clinical on our chances we produced in the first half. In the end we gave away a goal and that can’t happen.

“We had the chances clear. Great opportunities, one has to be in.

“I don’t have concerns. It is about keeping the focus. Don’t lose the focus, then we take that point. We have everything in our hands and we have to bounce back.”

Shaw added: “I own up to it, take it on the chin, it cost us the game but it is tough.

“I can’t even explain why my hand is up there. I got a nudge, maybe that helps with my hand going up but it shouldn’t be there.”

Reports suggest United will have just £100m to spend in the summer, regardless of a possible takeover.

The Red Devils have been linked with big-money signings including Harry Kane.

But Financial Fair Play rules look set to put a tight limit on their outlay – unless they can make sales.

However, they could snap up Tammy Abraham with reportedly willing to sell him for a cut price amid interest from Manchester United.

It was claimed last month that the Italian giants are holding out for £70m – the value of Chelsea’s buy-back clause.

But now it is understood he could be offloaded for just £39.5m.

Further back, United are being linked with another former Chelsea man, defender Andreas Christensen.

However, they could go for Sporting defender Goncalo Inacio, who shares an agent with Bruno Fernandes.
